The following few photographs are all from the Rock Garden in Chandigarh. Chandigarh is a very modern city that was designed by a swiss architect Le Corbusier. It is one of the most prosperous cities in India and subsequently accommodation is expensive so I just made a flying visit.
The Rock Garden was originally started on a piece of unused land on the outskirts of the city by Nek Chand and was completely illegal. It was discovered in 1975, 18 years after it was initially started. Luckily the authorities (and the public) realized its quirky beauty and it has grown into three phases, the third of which is still a work in process. One of the cool things about this project is that it is made from concrete and waste materials, including anything ceramic.
